Correct Incorrect Vinyl records, as we know them now, started showing up in the late 1940s and early 1950s. In 1948, Columbia Records launched the 12-inch LP (long-playing) vinyl spinning at 33⅓ RPM. This new format meant more music per side and way better sound quality.
