How to Build a Dog Crate
Step 16
Attach the Top
I cut the top of the dog crate to be 1-1/2 inches longer than its length and 3/4 inch wider than its depth. I drilled two mortises on each side using a 5/8-inch Forstner bit and attached figure-eight desktop fasteners to the top edge of the panels.
I aligned the top flush with the back, leaving a 3/4-inch overhang on the sides and front. Then, I secured it using 1/2-inch screws through the figure-eight fasteners.
